Mastercris- Pride EP

Sunday, June 12, 2011

For the past months, we have been eyeing on Cristovao Mestre, a Portuguese house producer with the guise "Mastercris". Known for his clever combination of deep, nu-disco, and funky house sound, Mastercris has long been appearing on various labels and compilations side-by-side with some of the world's most-respected deep house artists like Da Funk, Ricky Inch, and Evren Ulusoy to name a few. Today, as we feature the sound of Mastercris, we leave to you one essential release from the master himself-- "Pride EP"!

"Pride EP" was released last February under Grouper Recordings, a sister-label of Dutchie Worldwide, also a label that Mastercris frequents. The release caters six tracks in which three of the six are originals, while the others are remixes from Edmund, Sendos Fuera, and Marcelo Nassi. Although the remixes are worth the positive reviews (yes, take our word for that), we will be focusing more on the selected tracks by Mastercris that portray his production versatility.

"Got Pride (Original Mix)" takes front line as it unleashes the ultra-groovy sound made up of filtered vocals, walking basslines, body-moving rhodes rhythm, and funky guitar slicks. Lined-up in a set full of suave deep house tunes or even in a set jam-packed with nu-disco floor-fillers, "Got Pride" would definitely blend in!

Onto the easy-going side of his productions: "People (Original Mix)" brings together some smooth chords, piano samples, groovy bass, and of course more filtered vocal snippets! Well of course, "Boat Trip", the third original craft by Mastercris takes on a more straightforward approach to his sound. With thick rolling basslines and some hypnotizing vocal samples topped off with an array of soulful organ samples, "Boat Trip" effortlessly brings Mastercris's sound to late cruising nights.

There we have it. Mastercris and his marvelous arsenal of captivating sounds. Now you know why we have been closely following his releases for the past months!
