Onur Ozman- The Voice of You

Thursday, June 7, 2012

About:

Just a few weeks after the release of "He Was Young" on Ready Mix Records, Turkish soundsmith Onur Ozman is back on the limelight with a grandiose release, "The Voice of You"! Why this release in particular is a huge one, let us explain: Aside from it being the second release of Onur Ozman under Ready Mix Records for the month of May, "The Voice of You" showcases the grand debuts of the legendary Jean F. Cochois aka. The Timewriter, whose name has been a staple in the industry for the past fifteen plus years, and Addex, one of Romania's top deep house artists!

Sounds Like:

When we talk about contemporary deep house sound, Onur Ozman is definitely the name that first comes to our mind . His artistic and dramatic approach to deep house production has been unparalleled, take "The Voice of You" for instance. This original mix puts together a unique feel through the interplay of different elements like the panning vocal snippets, the chic-mannered pianos, the stubby groovy bass, and the thin-layered atmospheric pad that sets things afloat.

The remix by The Timewriter exhibits a more powerful approach to the sound of "The Voice of You". Dense, heavy kicks and thin layers of filtered samples from the original start off the track as the extremely groovy bass heats things up. The Timewriter remix is definitely a straight-up deep house floor-filler!

For something light but still body-moving, here is the Addex remix. Aside from the infectious grooves from the bass and snappy drum-work, the Rhode slicks will really make you bust a move!

Recommendation:

"The Voice of You" is one fantastic release-- definitely one of the best so far this year from Ready Mix Records in terms of dance-value and creativity. We really recommend getting all the tracks, but among the three tracks in this release, the Addex remix has to be our pick.

Marco Grandi- Love

Monday, February 20, 2012

About:

Hungarian producer Csaba Kiss makes his grand debut appearance as Marco Grandi on Ready Mix Records-- the prestigious Montreal-based label founded by Adel "Big Al" Ghandour-- with the stunning deep house masterpiece, "Love". Aside from the original mix by Grandi, first-rate remixes from Onur Ozman, Le Vinyl &Mani Rivera, and Sendos Fuera also see light in this release and will surely leave you speechless.

Sounds Like:

"Love" the original mix highlights the chic, feel-good groove of Marco Grandi's sounds. Not just that, you also get your ears fixated on lush reverberated chords Marco had patched up together with the seemingly-hypnotizing vocal snippets and the grounding bass.

Onur Ozman, hailed as one of the leading contemporary deep house artists, takes one for "Love" with his elegant reinterpretation dubbed as the "Frozen Confusion Mix". This "Frozen Confusion Mix" in particular offers a dynamic interplay of panning Rhode chords, eerie synth bits, and a refreshing atmosphere.

Hailing from Barcelona, Spain, Le Vinyl & Mani Rivera are the two producers in charge of this second remix of "Love". Expect a club-oriented approach to "Love" as they induce you to their vast array of arsenal of New York-inspired sound.

Another Spanish producer, Ernesto Altes who makes sophisticated deep house tracks under the guise "Sendos Fuera" lands a fantastic remix that harmoniously brings together his palette of Ibiza-drenched , Latin-infused grooves.

Recommendation:

We'll be frank with you guys, it's pretty difficult to pick one single favorite track from this release. The masterminds behind these masterpieces have made sure that each production lives up to not only their discerning tastes but also to that of the people behind Ready Mix Records. So to conclude this, we would have to cite ALL the tracks as our favorites, and we strongly recommend you to support and buy them all.

Interview with ONUR OZMAN [2011]

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Discovering a unique sound is a long process, it's a destination to arrive at.

For a very young and talented man like Onur Ozman-- the world is a place without borders where art is the primary medium that brings together people. Onur, born and raised in Turkey, recently moved to Zurich, Switzerland, where he continued excelling in the field of contemporary deep house music. Aside from being a passionate producer and a film-maker, this 22-year old Renaissance man studies architecture where his imagination dives into reality. As he celebrates more than one-hundred releases, Onur Ozman takes on a mission this year to--yet again-- defy limits.

Hello there Onur! How’s 2011 so far?

I have already 2 EPs released. Hold On EP from Onethirty Recordings and The Shadow of the Statue EP from Acryl Music. The reactions are awesome. I'm glad so far.
Onur Ozman's latest release on Acryl Music. Click here for the review.

In your opinion, what is the sound of Onur Ozman?

Discovering a unique sound is a long process, it's a destination to arrive at. I'm trying to define an area in between rationality and natural instinct. My music has been always a bit minimal and a bit groovy.

Can you share to us the story on how you became a producer?

I wasn't surrounded with talented DJs or producers. I grew up in a small city. There weren't so many things that could inspire me. However, creating something from tiny small sections to an enourmos stuff has been always a passion for me. I am a part of this culture, not only a music genre. Living underground beyond the borders. That's how I became a producer.

Among all the productions you have made, which one for you is your most favorite?

I find it an impossible question to answer. I like all of them. If you could decide which one of your ex-girlfriends would be your favourite, I could answer this, too. What me excites is now (what I produce) and the future (what i will).

If given a chance, name one producer whom you would like to work with in the future?

I do not have borders. This is a wide-range question. I don't have a dream person to work with but have so many people I support and may work in the near future togerther. That could even be a hip-hop vocalist or a rock guitarist, too.

You were born in Turkey and now based in Switzerland, right? Did moving to Zurich affect your life as a producer / DJ?

I moved to Zurich 6 Months ago which is a short period of time to figure out if that was a right idea or wrong. Actually, I love this city and Swiss people. Here you can find stunning djs and producers. Not like the common people, i like also the night life good enough. What I'm really interested in is the daily life which seems at first a bit frozen but if you realize the meanings the people have in their faces, then it turnes suddenly into an inspiring way of living.

If life only allowed you to listen to one single record for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It should be something that I never tend to listen to before. Because I would have a plenty of time to think about why i've never tried to hear a record like this. I mean, a different way of thinking. Isn't that why we make music for?

What advice can you give to young and aspiring producers out there?

They can start by stopping reading interviews. That gives them nothing. :) I really mean it. They need, at first, to find themselves. When they succeed it, there is only one thing remains, that no matter what happens, they should never give up. That's it.

How do you make your music?

I live my ordinary life and when I want to produce. I stay alone in Studio. This is the key for me. I always start a track by finding a unique sound. Not a "Sample" that another producer can easily remind. It should be something that nobody heared before. That becomes the definition of the whole process. Just like a guide actually. As I said before, producing is a process, from little sections to something complicated. People say, starting is the hardest thing but in producing what more important is managing to finish it.

What can we expect from Onur Ozman in the near future?

There's a lot in this year. I've many upcoming EPs which are almost completely scheduled. I expect in this year aprx. 20-30 releases more. I worked with remarkable names and keep working, too. Right now, I have significant projects which i even haven't signed to a label yet. To keep my audience surprising I won't give so much clues. About the gigs they can always follow me on my website which will be periodical updated. Thank you all.

I, Miguel Libre, would like to personally thank you for your time and your effort in making this interview possible! Support as always, and may 2011 be an awesome year for you!

Da Funk- Gated Que EP

Monday, September 27, 2010

One of the veterans in the deep house scene is back with a massive release from 2600 Records! Hailing all the way from Winterthur, Switzerland, Da Funk unleashes his latest five-tracker EP entitled Gated Que containing two original tracks and three remixes from Ivan I & Raygun, Onur Ozman, and Andy Mowat!

Gated Que (Original Mix)
Feel-good track right here! For the first track of the release, we get to hear once again Da Funk's signature bass together with calm atmosphere. Moreover, its perfectly timed cuts and breaks are some of the aspects you have to check out in this track.

Where Is Your Head (Original Mix)
This time around, we get to hear a slightly edgier approach to Da Funk's sound. Darker, heavier, yet still retaining that Da Funk vibe, "Where Is Your Head" is indeed a soundtrack for nocturnal house sessions!

Where Is Your Head (Ivan I & Raygun Remix)
Ivan I and Raygun surprise their listeners with their own remix packed with a massive groovy bassline! Vocal samples supplied in this remix also makes it stand out on its own.

Where Is Your Head (Onur Ozman Deep Remix)
Zürich-based producer also takes one for the team. Onur Ozman hands-over a tech-influenced take on Da Funk's "Where Is Your Head". Aside from which, the brilliantly-composed chords are some of the most salient features of this remix.

Gated Que (Andy Mowat Remix)
Shifting to a more upbeat vibe, Andy Mowat's remix ends the release with its tight rhythm and head-nodding basslines!

Gated Que EP is now available exclusively on Beatport, and will be available worldwide starting September 30,2010. Support this release!
