Addex- Rumble in the Bronx

Friday, July 13, 2012

About:

It’s a full-force deep house line up for this Pesto Music release, “Rumble in the Bronx” by Romanian producer Addex! For the remixes, expect superb material from Greek producer Ilias Katelanos, Spanish deep-house-legend-in-the-making Alvaro Hylander, and one of the leading female artists in the deep and tech house scene, Nadja Lind.

Sounds Like:

The original mix of “Rumble in the Bronx” in terms of its composition is rather straightforward, yet its simplicity allows great emphasis on its irresistible groove brought about by its punchy hats and bouncy bass. Adding more dance-value to this wonderful deep house tune are the vocal snippets and timely placed chords. You may also find the flutes and guitar plucks on top as fascinating as they add an organic feel to the track.

Now on to the remixes, the first in line is the remix by Greek producer Ilias Katelanos. Guaranteed, when listening to an Ilias Katelanos production, it will take you on a bay-side trip by the tranquil mangroves or simply put, a nice warm tropical cruise! Ilias Katelanos perfectly blends his trademark sound with that of Addex’s and comes up with this smooth, warm deep house track.

Next up is the remix from DeepWit Recordings label co-owner, Alvaro Hylander. Alvaro lands heavy four-on-the-floor kicks together with his arsenal of lush, glowing, and reverberated sounds— turning “Rumble in the Bronx” into one main-room stomper!

Nadja Lind’s remix is the third and last remix on the package but it definitely isn’t the least. A work of elegance and emotion materialized through the rich atmospheric pads, female vocal snippets, and its overall levitating feel, this Nadja Lind Remix definitely gives this release a proper atmospheric reinterpretation.

Last in line is the Dub mix by Addex himself. This Dub caters a more organic approach to Addex’s sound.

Recommendation:

Overall, this has been a great release! The original mix and Alvaro Hylander’s remix really have the groove and will definitely make it to the dance-floors, while the Ilias Katelanos and Nadja Lind remixes take the alternate route in delivering a more atmospheric, light-on-the-ear sound. But if we were to pick out our favorites that match our musical preference, we’d go for the original, the Alvaro Hylander, and Ilias Katelanos remixes.

Ejeca- Drive EP

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

About:

Our friends from DeepWit Recordings have once again signed another very talented producer on board-- this time it's Ejeca, a producer from the UK who started producing at the tender age of 11! Ejeca's debut marked as "Drive EP", is a four-tracker that brings to life his not-your-usual deep house style. "Drive EP" features two originals from Ejeca himself, and two fantastic remixes from veteran artists: Alvaro Hylander, the head honcho of DeepWit Recordings, and Big Al, the mastermind behind the highly-acclaimed Ready Mix group of labels.

Sounds Like:

"Danehill" the original mix starts out slow-- a hazy yet lush track perfect for night drives. Later on in the track, stripped-down bass, disco-inspired guitar licks, and nocturnal atmosphere come and join in the fun. In the hands of Big Al, "Danehill" turns into a straight-up groovy tune that works well in warming up the dance-floor. Stabs, stabs, bass, and more stabs can be expected from this one!

"Bumbled", Ejeca's second track in this release caters to a more 90s-inspired sound. With the vinyl noise in the introduction, it's not that hard to predict a nostalgic track like this would turn your modern-day dance-floors into long-lost discotheques.

The last is Alvaro Hylander's remix of "Bumbled". Like the original, this remix also embodies a classic house feel but with a little hint of that Hylander chord-bass groove connection.

Recommendation:

Tried and tested, the Alvaro Hylander remix of "Bumbled" works well on the dance-floor-- this you definitely have to put in your cart. While you're at it anyway, get both versions of "Danehill", you'll never know when you will be needing fine tracks like these!

Various Artists- Wulongzu Weapons Vol. 1

Monday, February 27, 2012

About:

Wulongzu has already seen light as early as 2002 as a DJ-booking and promotions company founded by Shandong-based Filipino DJ and producer, Aldwin Macapagal. The company have had notable successes in enlisting top DJs from the Philippines and China for several of Wulongzu's events, and by 2004, Wulongzu started to seek out artists from around the world. Six years later, Wulongzu Records was born to aid in the propagation of house music in Mainland China.

After belting out a couple of releases on the label, Wulongzu finally releases its first release-compilation dubbed, "Wulongzu Weapons Vol. 1". Artists who have previously appeared on the label-- Diego Marcelo, Marc Galindo, Karlos Kastillo, and Aldwin Macapagal himself-- are back to deliver their own respective masterpieces. On the other hand, Weapons Vol. 1 also highlights the debuts of Danny Garlick, Andrez Florez, and the highly-acclaimed Finnish artists, Lovetone (Anton Sonin)  and Turismo!

Sounds Like:

The sound of Wulongzu does not deviate far from that of Gabriel Rocha's and Mark Knight's-- two highly-acclaimed producers who have perfected the balance between tech and tribal. Weapons Vol. 1 actually features a rare-shade of that organic tribal-tech sound that will prove very handy on the modern-day battlefield called the dance-floor. Let the heavy, deep and echoing vocal chants be your war cry while let the timely interplay of stabs and bass be your cadence to war.

Recommend:

Even at first listen, we already knew we had to recommend all the tracks on Weapons Vol. 1. At first, we even tried to higher our standards so we could filter-out better the tracks, but our efforts had been futile-- the more you listen to the whole release, the more you will realize that each track on the roster really has its intrinsic dance value and will truly serve you well on the field.

Choose your weapon!

Marco Grandi- Love

Monday, February 20, 2012

About:

Hungarian producer Csaba Kiss makes his grand debut appearance as Marco Grandi on Ready Mix Records-- the prestigious Montreal-based label founded by Adel "Big Al" Ghandour-- with the stunning deep house masterpiece, "Love". Aside from the original mix by Grandi, first-rate remixes from Onur Ozman, Le Vinyl &Mani Rivera, and Sendos Fuera also see light in this release and will surely leave you speechless.

Sounds Like:

"Love" the original mix highlights the chic, feel-good groove of Marco Grandi's sounds. Not just that, you also get your ears fixated on lush reverberated chords Marco had patched up together with the seemingly-hypnotizing vocal snippets and the grounding bass.

Onur Ozman, hailed as one of the leading contemporary deep house artists, takes one for "Love" with his elegant reinterpretation dubbed as the "Frozen Confusion Mix". This "Frozen Confusion Mix" in particular offers a dynamic interplay of panning Rhode chords, eerie synth bits, and a refreshing atmosphere.

Hailing from Barcelona, Spain, Le Vinyl & Mani Rivera are the two producers in charge of this second remix of "Love". Expect a club-oriented approach to "Love" as they induce you to their vast array of arsenal of New York-inspired sound.

Another Spanish producer, Ernesto Altes who makes sophisticated deep house tracks under the guise "Sendos Fuera" lands a fantastic remix that harmoniously brings together his palette of Ibiza-drenched , Latin-infused grooves.

Recommendation:

We'll be frank with you guys, it's pretty difficult to pick one single favorite track from this release. The masterminds behind these masterpieces have made sure that each production lives up to not only their discerning tastes but also to that of the people behind Ready Mix Records. So to conclude this, we would have to cite ALL the tracks as our favorites, and we strongly recommend you to support and buy them all.

Seraphine- Costa Lounge

Thursday, February 2, 2012

About:

DeepWit Recordings takes us into the depths of audio perception once again, this time with Seraphine's brand new release, "Costa Lounge". Seraphine, for starters, is the guise of Polish deep house producer and DJ, Sylwester GÄ™bczyk. But don't get us wrong, Seraphine is no new name on the label. In fact, "State of Mind and Memories" was Seraphine's debut release (together with Silt) on DeepWit back in May 2011, while "Just a Dream", also another track from him was included in the highly-acclaimed DeepWit Recordings Autumn Sampler

"Costa Lounge" is a four-track release that not only features Seraphine's two originals: "Costa Lounge" and "Another Boring Love Story", but also showcases the sounds of fellow-Polish artist, Tom Bednarczyk and DeepWit head honcho, Alvaro Hylander!

Sounds Like:

"Costa Lounge", the original mix is all about the deep Rhode chords, resonant vocal samples, and punchy hi-hat work. Of course, the bass is a given-- deep, groovy, smooth. This original mix, in addition, is something one would fully appreciate on a roof-deck or on a balcony far away from bustling cities.

The Tom Bednarczyk remix of "Costa Lounge" on the other hand intensifies the energy of the track by adding more resonance and by giving more emphasis on the percussion-- brilliant.

Things get a little darker with "Another Boring Love Story"-- a track dubbed with a seemingly seductive dialogue sample and patched up with a strongly filtered and flanged chord.

Last, Alvaro Hylander takes "Another Boring Love Story" and turns it into one of his own. Expect the trademark sound of Alvaro Hylander: a sound of discriminating shade of deepness that will definitely seduce you to the deeper side of sound.

Recommendation:

"Costa Lounge" from the elegant title itself seemed promising-- it was something that enticed us into expecting something of pure quality and class. The actual release didn't deviate far from our expectations: Seraphine walked the talk with this fantastic release and it also made us want to look forward to more of his productions!

We also think it would be premature to end this review without recommending the fine fine FINE craft from Alvaro Hylander, so guys, don't even attempt to check-out your cart without the Alvaro Hylander remix of "Another Boring Love Story"!

Featuring the sounds of Thor, James Dexter, Arco, and Franco de Mulero, "The Flavor Saver EP" Volume 8 is a palette of definitive tunes from both new and old artists on the label that further solidifies the fresh, groovy, and eclectic sounds of Salted Music!

Sounds Like:

First in the release is the intoxicating deep-tech and vintage-sounding track from Thor, "Underground Sound (Git Dowichazz)". Next up is the smooth-flowing classic house track from James Dexter, "Give Me Something"--  the vocal snippets, rhodes, and the bustling snare-clap interplay really get the groove on!

Of course, expect more rhode slicks, body-moving bass, and a fantastic snare roll on this one. "Soul Mood Mallorca" may be the last track in this release, but it definitely is not the least. . . David Herrero Remixed

Saturday, December 17, 2011

About:

Four brand new remixes of world-renowned Spanish DJ and producer, David Herrero have finally been released special thanks to ALMA Soul Music! Enjoy David Herrero's "Gimme Somebody" as it gets its remixed, not once, but thrice! We've got Siwell, Vozmediano, and Scan Mode on the remixes of the said track while co-label owner, Javier Varez pulls off a stunning remix on David Herrero & Sergio Parrado's "Delnorte".

Sounds Like:

First up is Siwell's "Gimme Somebody"-- expect a pumping tech house reinterpretation from Italian techno authority, Luigi "Siwell" Poggiani! Vozmediano's on the other hand is a vintage-sounding piece topped up with synth bass and a wonderful melodic pianos. The third and last remix for "Gimme Somebody" falls onto the hands of Alberto Sanchez, also a Spanish producer more known as Scan Mode, and the result is this heavy industrial-oriented deep and tech tune!

Something dark, groovy, and vocoder-lead, the Javier Varez remix of "Delnorte" is a rare concoction that showcases the darker side of Javier's sound.

Recommendation:

"David Herrero Remixed" greets us with a range of diversified mixture of electronic dance genres. This release also is something different, as mentioned earlier-- quite a drift from the usual ALMA Soul Music style, but they were still able to pull it off! For our favorite tracks, they are Siwell's remix on "Gimme Somebody" and Javier's remix of "Delnorte".

Greetings Javier! Thank you for making this interview possible. Without further delay, let us begin the interview. Firstly, how are things lately as a producer, a DJ, and a label owner?

Hello Miguel, is a pleasure to sharing some words with you and readers of Soundscapes. Things are cool about my work, we are really glad with the running of our label Alma Soul Music, so many great releases and several projects in clubs are coming.

Before we go to the details of your label, Alma Soul Music, let's first talk about your solo career. What inspired you to become a DJ and a producer?

Certainly I must to thank to my brother Fernando, he was my example and inspiration in the world of electronic music from I just was a little children! Years after was inebitable to focus my attention out of the commercial music, for this reason at day of today is possible to listen different influences like Jazz or IDM sounds into my own Deep House productions.

We're pretty sure that the things that revolve around you have had certain impacts on your musical career. In your case, how has Madrid been able to influence your career?

It´s not easy to answer this because I´m thankful to many people in Madrid.Certainly it´s a city where you can enjoy several types of art every day, inside and outside the music, without a doubt all people could be well influenced here... But I recognize that this is a country with a giant porcentaje of persons who prefer to spend his time and money in seeing to famous TV celebrities "playing" Mainstream music at big clubs. Definetely I think that this is not the land of opportunities... but sincerely I don´t see my life far of this sunny place.

Now, we talk about your label, Alma Soul Music. Can you tell us something about your label?

As I said, me and my partners D Low, Memphis and Alex Sosa are 100% satisfied with Alma Soul Music´s way, soon we will launch great material from important artists such as David Herrero, Ilya Santana, Siwell, Show B, Jack Pattern, Meterius Johnson and many more. In other things I must to remember that our own radioshow "Alma Dreams" is broadcasted weekly by 3 radio stations in Europe, it´s all about midtempo and downtempo music, out of our usual Deep House tunes.
Alma Soul Music: Javier's Record Label

What is or are the driving force/s behind Alma Soul Music, and what makes it unique?

Another time I gonna be sincere with you. I think that we launch just the music we like with the wish that be nice for our listeners, but I recognize that at day of today is very hard to highlight between bigger labels... Maybe one thing what distinguishes us is our visual image, we always use original designs from artists as record cover.

As a label owner and manager, what obstacles have you faced in the past, and how were you able to surpass these problems?

Uff... daily I ask to myself why I was not the creator of Facebook or maybe a muscled porn star who gains millions of dollars per month? LOL. But the reality is other, it´s simple, if people can get music for free, why them gonna spend money in it? The problem with piracy always will exists in our life, I don´t see a solution for this... I just prefer to smile because I know that never I will be rich in making music ;)

Let's go back to you being a producer. How does your studio set up look like?

I share a studio with my partners of Alma Soul Music, this room is called Atmosphera Studio where I usually kick our Akai MPC and touch some notes with my nose in differents analog synths. Also I record sweet melodies made with my own voice with Logic and our Rode condeser microphone (these sweet melodies always are erased instantly because my voice sucks)

The Atmosphera Studio

If there's one producer in the world you would like to collaborate with, who would it be?

My favourite artist from years ago is Matthew Herbert, would be amazing to see him working for our label!! But the true is that i never will try to make music with him, because is 100% sure that I would damage the results! He is the most original artist in electronic music in my opinion.

Any news for your followers? What's new from Javier Varez and from the guys on Alma Soul Music?

At the moment personally I only can speak about a new moniker for a different style of my productions, future releases with a couple of important labels. And about our label, I will try my partners works more, this form I will can sleep more hours!

This concludes our interview! The guys behind Soundscapes by Motionmigs would like to thank you for your time and effort in making this interview possible! We wish you all the best. Cheers and keep in touch!

I´m really thankful for this nice and funny interview, maybe another time i could speak about grape harvest in my grandfather´s town or something similar hehe! Thanks a lot from me and all Alma Soul Music components!
Here's a free download mix exclusively made by Javier just for our readers here on Soundscapes! Check it out, and have a good day! :)

Deephope- Antonyms EP

Sunday, November 27, 2011

"Antonyms EP” is the perfect concoction of everything deep, chill, and groovy, and the man responsible for this latest release on Sophisticate Recordings is Deephope, a DJ and producer hailing from Spain. Deephope’s musical style varies from experimental to house and to techno, but in this release, we get to hear Deephope’s laid-back loung sound in three tracks.

First is “Deep Sun”, a downtempo track wrapped in silky smooth atmosphere and sunlit melodies. Something steady for the second track, as “ON” puts together deep sounds and a minimal feel for a change. “UP”, track three, also is a wonder of its own with its groovy bass and cool pads.

A little of everything makes the difference.

Javier Varez- You Are Here

Thursday, September 29, 2011

It's no surprise that Spanish producer, Javier Varez had pulled off a remarkable debut on DeepWit Recordings, the Denmark-based deep house record label by Alvaro Hylander and Sierra Chandler. Weeks before we got word about his debut release, we have already been frequenting Javier's releases from different labels including his remix on "Turn it Around", released on Solardish Records. We discovered that Javier Varez is always a step ahead of his game, producing sounds so different from other deep house artists-- and his sound is something that constantly changes release by  release! His debut release, "You Are Here" brings to DeepWit territory Varez's ingenious yet organic sound consequentially featuring the smooth and deep sounds of Dirty Culture and Alex Sosa!

The original mix of "You Are Here" actually caught us off-guard. A few seconds into the track, we thought that Javier would be dropping some deep and subtle sounds-- but we were wrong. Javier surprised us with a dashing arrangement of groovy bass so groovy that we couldn't stop tapping our feet for about an hour while playing the track. On top of the bass, you'll be able to hear some thin-layered synths, panning vocals snippets, suave flanged chords, and more groove factor! Excellent track, you can never go wrong with this one!

To keep things short and sweet, here are the things you need to know about the remixes and the B-side of the release: first-up, Romanian DJ and producer Tudor-Radu Barbu sets forth a groovy chord-led reinterpretation as his celebrated guise, Dirty Culture. Alex Sosa also puts together a somewhat deep tech-inspired remix for the release.

The last track that brings the release to a close is "Round Numbers", also by Javier Varez. "Round Numbers" uses some elements of his remix on "Turn it Around" while at the same time introducing a different kind of approach to his productions. Upbeat and brilliant-- this is "Round Numbers"!

Dush feat. Mr. Maph- Turn it Around [Part 1]

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Germany-based Solardish Records once released "Turn it Around" by Dush feat. Mr. Maph on their "Solardish Ibiza Sampler 2010", but this time around, it's back in full-force! The remix package from Solardish Records comes in two parts: part one having been released a few days ago contains the original mix, the Javier Varez remix, the Jeremy Juno & Bruze DAngelo Remix, and SBRO remix. The second part, to be released on September 12, will feature remixes from Stewart McCarthy, The Modular Deviant Device, and of course, the spectacular deep house tandem and Solardish Records owners, Zweiklang Twins

We were actually surprised to have found out that the person behind Dush is a good friend of ours. Denmark-based, deep house producer, label owner-- these things do sound familiar, don't they? But of course we wont tell you who he really is, so if you really want to know more about him, do some research!

Turn it Around (Original Mix)
Dush teams up with Mr. Maph, a very talented Gospel-inspired vocalist who now resides in Marbella, Spain. The original mix is a melting pot of soulful vocals, deep cloudy atmosphere, and silky-smooth synths. If you are a seasoned deep house aficionado, you will know that this particular track is a track of quality.

Turn it Around (Javier Varez Remix)
Hats-off to the Javier Varez remix, our favorite rendition in the entire package! Varez, now based in Madrid, delivers a stunning and glimmering remix of "Turn it Around". On a side note, Javier Varez also is the driving force behind Alma Soul Music.

Turn it Around (Jeremy Juno & Bruze DAngelo Remix)
Chilled down yet groovy-- just how they do it in the cold north! Dutch producers Jeremy Juno and Bruze DAngelo also appear on "Turn it Around" Part 1 with a smooth-flowing head-nodding tune.

Turn it Around  (SBRO Remix)
Now something from the UK, SBRO remixes "Turn it Around" as the last track in this installment. If there would be a dub version of "Turn it Around", this SBRO remix would perfectly be the one!

High-profile deep house artists and label owners coming together for "Turn it Around" the remix release-- things can't get any better than this! Catch part 2 soon!

Josef Belani- Aurora / Dom

Thursday, July 21, 2011

Last week, Spain's 19-year old producer, Josef Belani showed the world what he is capable of. His release, "Aurora / Dom EP" stomped listeners with its massive sounds, and thanks to Nellie Recordings, a Sweden based progressive house label, Josef's sounds have reached millions around the globe. It is of much pleasure to be writing this review for one of the scene's upcoming artists, Josef Belani!

Kicking off with a bang, "Aurora" puts on a show with a heartwarming piano-led drop, while following it up with some high-energy riffs. If you, however, think that you still crave for more banging big-room energy, wait for the second track!

"Dom" is next. A massive floor-filler, "Dom"  seriously embodies the sound we have been exploring this year-- colossal, crowd-pumping, and simply genial! Aside from which, this second and last track is also the type of track that when played in a rave, raises the hands of people and let them play keyboards in the air.

So yes, "Aurora / Dom EP" is out now on your favorite online record stores. Be sure to support this release because Josef Belani  is the future of the big-room progressive house scene-- and we are certain of that!

Interview with ALEX V

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

My inspiration was to create a digital platform to share quality deep house music, promote new artists and build step by step a solid and respected label.

V is for Valentin, Alex V's last name which still remains relatively unknown to most of his listeners and followers around the globe. Now that you know what V in Alex V stands for, we can move on to know more about him. Alex was born in the beautiful city of Barcelona in 1977, but it is in Tossa de Mar, where he now resides and continues to perfect his craft.

As a passionate musician, Alex started producing at the age of 16, and from there he has started building up his arsenal of classy and elegant deep-tech sound. His list of labels where he has released material lists Night Drive Music, Acryl Music, Justified Cause, Big Mama,Sweetleaf, Deepology, Extremly House, Pulsewith, Mettle Music, Soulstar, and more. There is more to Alex than a producer. In fact, just recently, he has just established a deep-tech house label dubbed Sophisticate Recordings to give the world a taste of Alex V's interpretation of house music.

Hola, Alex! How are things going?

Things are going well, thanks. Its a very busy time for me as a producer and
label manager. There is always something to do and deadlines to achieve in this
business.

What does the letter “V” in Alex V stand for?

V means “ Valentin” which is my surname. A long time ago I used my full name
on my productions but after a while I decided to shorten it to just Alex V.

Continuing, let us talk about your productions: Can you describe to us
your sound? Also, how were you able to come up with such a sound?

My style is based on elegant and smooth melodies mixed with a touch of
underground house music. I like to use software and hardware at the same time
on my productions. Cubase is my favourite DAW and many VSTi are good to do
this task. Loving all the Arturia classics and my Korg Z1 keyboard.

How about Spain and the house music scene— how are they like?

Barcelona or Ibiza always has been a city with a huge electronic music culture,
including deephouse. The local scene is good and you can find great artists and
cool labels around Spain.

As we know, you are the driving force behind the deep-tech house
label, Sophisticate Recordings. What was your inspiration behind the
establishment of the label?

My inspiration was to create a digital platform to share quality deep house
music, promote new artists and build step by step a solid and respected label.

In your opinion, how is Sophisticate Recordings different from the
hundreds of labels out there?

Sophisticate is a young label that wants to contribiute and bring great music to
the deephouse scene. Personaly I don´t think that we are better or less than
other labels, we try to care about what we are doing working with passion and
love for the music.

As a relatively-new player in the music industry, what are the various
obstacles you have encountered so far? What are your solutions to
these problems?

Make yourselft know to the public is one of the most dificult task today!
Promotion is essencial to run a label and keep it alive, its always hard.
Piracy is bad for small labels but also some people believe that it can be used as
extra publicity.

If you were given a chance to work with any DJ/ producer from any
label or country, who would it be, and why?

There are so many new and classic artist that i would like to work with. Im open to
anyone, its not about “names” or how famous you are its all about music.

Any last worlds for our readers and fans from all four corners of the
globe?

There are new exciting releases and podcasts coming soon, keep close to
sophisticate and thanks to all our followers for your support!

I, Miguel Libre, would like to thank you for time and effort in making
this interview possible. May more people support you and good luck to
your label— you will have my support as always!
