Justin de Guzman- Wake Up

Sunday, March 25, 2012

About:

Following up "Lined Up", Justin de Guzman-- a young visionary and the big boss of Manila's leading underground label-- "Deeper Manila" returns to Asia Music with a banging big-room piece, "Wake Up"!

Sounds Like:

The intro is a well-worked up progression of kicks, shakers, bongos, rim-shots and whatnot that gives us the feel of the groove in its slightest forms. By the time the main drop hits, you will be moving to an intoxicating interplay of heavy bass and some viciously sounding piano riffs. The breakdown, in addition, will complete the experience as it sends all these elements suspending in a highly-reverberated atmosphere, then drops everything in one solid bang!

Recommendation:

Totally recommending this one. Get "Wake Up" right now, and take it into the darker rooms of the underground. You can even set this as your alarm sound-- no joke.

Palitra- The Return (Remixes)

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

The return of Ukraine-based tribal-techno artist, Palitra is here. Last year, Deeper Manila had the chance to release “The Return”-- a massive eight-minute track that featured heavy tribal percussion and ground-shaking bass-kicks! This time around, “The Return” sees light once again with its brand new remixes from both new and old artists on Deeper Manila: Justin de Guzman and Anthony Logarta with their respective tech house reinterpretations; Micfreak and Mike Bolante with their own electro-funk remixes.

ALINEP- Deepsomnia

Monday, March 5, 2012

About:

Ali Nepomuceno aka. ALINEP is known for three things (among others): one he is the resident DJ of Manila's only underground club, TIME;  two, the founder of Manila Underground, the counterpart of Detroit's "Underground Renaissance" in the Philippines ; and three, a producer who with this release, "Deepsomnia" celebrates his second appearance on "Funkfield Recordings".

Sounds Like:

For ALINEP's sound, there's only one direction it's heading-- down deep. That's right. With "Deepsomnia", Ali showcases deep, groovy bass, hypnotizing vocal sample interplay, and seemingly glowing chords. If you like your track clean on the other hand, the Deepstrumental version is ALINEP's own treat for you!

Recommendation:

To keep it short and sweet-- buy both tracks! Watch out for Alinep because he has a lot of surprises in stored for this year-- this is just the tip of the iceberg!

Various Artists- Wulongzu Weapons Vol. 1

Monday, February 27, 2012

About:

Wulongzu has already seen light as early as 2002 as a DJ-booking and promotions company founded by Shandong-based Filipino DJ and producer, Aldwin Macapagal. The company have had notable successes in enlisting top DJs from the Philippines and China for several of Wulongzu's events, and by 2004, Wulongzu started to seek out artists from around the world. Six years later, Wulongzu Records was born to aid in the propagation of house music in Mainland China.

After belting out a couple of releases on the label, Wulongzu finally releases its first release-compilation dubbed, "Wulongzu Weapons Vol. 1". Artists who have previously appeared on the label-- Diego Marcelo, Marc Galindo, Karlos Kastillo, and Aldwin Macapagal himself-- are back to deliver their own respective masterpieces. On the other hand, Weapons Vol. 1 also highlights the debuts of Danny Garlick, Andrez Florez, and the highly-acclaimed Finnish artists, Lovetone (Anton Sonin)  and Turismo!

Sounds Like:

The sound of Wulongzu does not deviate far from that of Gabriel Rocha's and Mark Knight's-- two highly-acclaimed producers who have perfected the balance between tech and tribal. Weapons Vol. 1 actually features a rare-shade of that organic tribal-tech sound that will prove very handy on the modern-day battlefield called the dance-floor. Let the heavy, deep and echoing vocal chants be your war cry while let the timely interplay of stabs and bass be your cadence to war.

Recommend:

Even at first listen, we already knew we had to recommend all the tracks on Weapons Vol. 1. At first, we even tried to higher our standards so we could filter-out better the tracks, but our efforts had been futile-- the more you listen to the whole release, the more you will realize that each track on the roster really has its intrinsic dance value and will truly serve you well on the field.

Choose your weapon!

ALINEP- Disco Pudge EP

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

About:

Ali Nepomuceno (Alinep) may be one of Manila's newest producers, but his name isn't really a stranger anymore most especially in the underground scene. Aside from being one of the driving forces behind Manila Underground, the counterpart of the Underground Renaissance of Detroit here in Manila, Alinep is also recognized as one of the resident DJs of TIME in Manila, the one and only underground club in the country..

Disco Pudge EP-- a three-track deep house release under Funkfield Recordings-- marks Ali's debut as a producer.

Sounds Like:

A collection of smooth and head-nodding deep house chords patched up with a few snippets of echoing vocals. Of course, don't forget the set of punchy snares and pounding kick drums!

Recommendation:

We recommend listening to "Disco Pudge", it definitely sums up what Ali's sound is all about! But "Snuffy Waffy" and "Unit 21" are also worth the listen-- so head over to Beatport and support this release!

Silverfilter- Manila Sound

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

About:

"Manila Sound" is the latest from Manila's very own Cyril Sorongon aka. Silverfilter! Released under the Florida-based electro and breaks label, Kick It Recordings, "Manila Sound" brings to life brand new electrifying sound from Silverfilter in breaks format. For Silverfilter, "Manila Sound" takes him back to the classic sounds of breaks similar to that of Adam Freeland's. It all started with that sweet portamento lead synth, according to Silverfilter himself, and the rest is history.

Rounding it up are stunning remixes from Kick It artists: Kwerk, Botbass, and Original Primate.

Sounds Like:

For the original mix, get ready to for an electrifying head-bobbing track from Silverfilter: expect in-your-face bass, mad-solid kick drums, and dirty synths! Kwerk lands a remix for grinding and pounding, still in breakbeat form, while Botbass concocts a dirty, trashy electro house remix of "Manila Sound". Original Primate, lastly, will strip your inhibitions off with his dark and tribal reinterpretation of Silverfilter's original work-- Let the music play!

Recommendation:

We don't often review electro and breaks here on Soundscapes, but this was actually a good excuse to do one. We recommend all the tracks in this release: from the Original mix by Silverfilter to the Kwerk, Botbass, and Original Primate remixes!

Silverfilter- The Jap

Sunday, November 6, 2011

Deeper Manila is proud to bring out another stunning tech house release by a veteran in the local industry! Cyril Sorongon, better known as Silverfilter, is one of Manila’s finest and well-seasoned electronic music artists, and simply having him on-board once again proves that the label’s vision to push further the scene is still strong.

The Jap” brings to the surface sounds from underground from Manila to Pordenon as remixes from MicFreak, X-Cite & Gift, Justin de Guzman, and the Italian deep-tech duo, Aerodynamic Xpress see light.

As massive as it may sound, the original mix of “The Jap” is a product of heavy bass, echoing synths, and pumped-up kicks. Filipino-export, MicFreak and the Italian tandem, Aerodynamic Xpress turn the tables with their respective smooth-flowing deep reinterpretations of “The Jap”.

In contrast to the former remixes, X-Cite & Gift assemble a rough-rolling craft as their remix. Last but definitely not the least is the spectacular rendition by Deeper Manila head-honcho, Justin de Guzman, dubbed as the “Finish Me” remix-- expect something different from this one!

“The Jap” together with its remixes is out now on Deeper Manila!

Miguel Libre- Intriphisticated EP

Friday, May 20, 2011

Miguel Libre is part of the youngest and newest generation of electronic music producers in Manila, Philippines, and his name has finally landed on Deeper Manila with his debut release entitled Intriphisticated EP!

This release yields two originals from Miguel: Intriphisticated and We're From the Deep, while producers Aerodynamic Xpress, DJ X-Cite, Marc Systematic, MicFreak, and label owner Justin de Guzman also contribute their respective remixes for this huge release.

Intriphisticated, a soundtrack made up of edgy stabs, stubby bass, and multi-layered atmospheric pads, is the first in this release. On to the remixes: first we have a remix from the Italian duo Aerodynamic Xpress, expect a pitch-black atmospheric interpretation of the original! DJ X-Cite's remix, on the other hand, carries a handful of elements of the original, but this time, the original gets twisted into a more haunting tune.

For the third remix, Markovskyh Vladyslav, or simply Marc Systematic, puts forth another stunning adrenaline-pumping techno track! For people who still crave for a harder version of Intriphisticated, MicFreak (Michael Cobaria) made sure you guys get to experience one. MicFreak made sure that his remix on Intriphisticated would blow your heads off, guaranteed.

We're From the Deep, which serves as side B of the release, portrays the smoother yet darker side of Miguel Libre's productions. Drift deep with hypnotizing leads and ultra-groovy bass! Giving the release a soulful close, Justin de Guzman turns the deep sounds of We're From the Deep into one groovy Rhodes-driven body-swingin' piece.

Soundscapes Exclusive Package no. 001 feat. JUSTIN DE GUZMAN

Saturday, April 30, 2011

In our efforts to help artists showcase their talents to the rest of the world, Soundscapes by Motionmigs officially launches the first of a series of exclusive music give-aways! First installment features the very talented head honcho of Deeper Manila (Records), Justin de Guzman. This package caters five fine tunes exclusively compiled by Justin himself. Soundscapes is proud to present this Exclusive Package featuring Justin de Guzman!

All Night Long (In One Sound) [Deeper Manila]
This track embodies the earlier sound of Justin on Deeper Manila. Released on DM back in 2009, "All Night Long"  brings out deep and suave grooves from the man.

El Nido (Exclusive Rework) [Unreleased]
Early 2011 marked the completion of a summer-anticipating chill house track by Justin de Guzman entitled "El Nido", which is inspired by the paradise island Palawan itself. A snippet of El Nido was uploaded on Justin's Soundcloud page for free download, but the full length high quality version was never given out to the public just yet. In April, Justin handed over to us an exclusive rework of the track for give-away.

In the Morning [Unreleased]
The third track in this package is "In the Morning", one of Justin's unreleased works that portray the darker side of his productions-- a precursor to his new tech sound on Deeper Manila.

Takedown [Unreleased]
Like the previous track, "Takedown" also is an unreleased track from Justin de Guzman. Expect some bad-ass basslines on this one!

Leave the World Behind (Justin's Deeper Mix) [Bootleg]
As an avid Swedish House Mafia fan, Justin, back in 2009 gave away for free two of his bootleg remixes of the highly-acclaimed anthem "Leave the World Behind". These goodies reached an estimated number of 7,000 downloads worldwide up to date and was later on reviewed here on our website last year. In addition, the inclusion of this track in this package was requested by Motionmigs.

Native Rush- And At Night EP

Saturday, October 9, 2010

Native Rush takes center stage on Deeper Manila as they set their debut four-track release, “And at Night”! Moreover, Native Rush is the moniker for two talented German producers, Johan Brandes and Gunther Purshe who focus on crafting deep house, soul, and techno music.

Nocturnal anthem, “Many Times” brings the release to life with its laid-back atmosphere, deep-drifting grooves, echoing chords, and hazy vocal samples. Deeper Manila captain Justin de Guzman takes remix duties for “Many Times”— the result, an in-your-face groovy reinterpretation! Excellent remix right here.

Third track on the package is “Whatadelay”, a soundtrack of hip melodies and haunting echoing vocal samples. “Arkwright” is the fourth and last track on the package, and the drift to a more deep-tech ground is quite evident on this one.

Deeper Manila celebrates the debut of Native Rush on the label with four brand new tracks! “And at Night” is a proud release exclusively brought to you by Deeper Manila— support this release!

Anthony Logarta- Tuba Supernova

Friday, July 2, 2010

We kick off another review for a release by a fellow-countryman, Anthony Logarta, a California-based, deep house producer. Just recently Anthony launched a brand new record label entitled, Deep Sphere Records, a label now releasing quality material from various Filipino producers like Funk Avy, Mecha Hell, Justin de Guzman, and of course, Anthony himself.

"Tuba Supernova" is Anthony Logarta's debut on his very own record label, and is the stepping-stone for numerous releases in the future. Deeper Manila label owner, Justin de Guzman also throws in a remix for Deep Sphere.

Opening the release is the Tuba Supernova (Original Mix), a head-nodding, body-swaying deep track composed of flanged chords put together in a very hip fashion. On the flipside, Justin de Guzman turns Tuba Supernova into a midnight soundtrack, made possible by denser bass-work, and a deeper atmosphere.

The new shiny label really looks promising. As it continues to release more quality material from artists out there, Deep Sphere Records surely is one label you should not miss out on!
