Dale Howard- Signals EP

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

About:

Something Different Records by Jesus Pablo and Di Riviera, once again gets a taste of Dale Howard's sound, this time with the four-track EP entitled, Signals. Featuring remixes from Evan Iff and Matt Masters, Signals instantly turns into a go-to release for deep and tech house DJs!

Sounds Like:

Signals the original mix offers lush chords. It's not just those lush chords we're talking about, rather, the nicely-timed rhythm that will make you start tapping or nodding unconsciously! Classic drums with a twist of syncopated snares really complemented the chords in this one, not to mention the deep bass and the vocal hooks.

The Evan Iff Remix follows a similar direction to that of the original. This remix however utilizes more vocal snippets to fuel its groove and an analogue bass, completing the 90's house package!

Something deeper, darker, and sexier is expected from this third track, the original mix of Sub Text. While its remix by British DJ and producer, Matt Masters offers a tribalesque reinterpretation that provides a stunning close to this release!

Recommendation:

Signals EP brought  back some good old nostalgic vibes while at the same time showcased the essence of quality contemporary deep house production.

All tracks are worthy on the dance-floor, but our favorites from this release have to be the original mix of Signals and the Matt Masters remix of Sub Text!

Zas & Sanze presents Mindgamers- Hold You

Monday, August 6, 2012

About:

No fancy stuff, no cheese, just pure tech music from Zas & Sanze as they present yet another main room floor-filler on Bonzai Progressive as Mindgamers entitled, " Hold You"! Bonzai Progressive made sure that this release gets proper remixes, hence a remix from Stefano Noferini, one of the hottest names in the scene right now (yes, we would like to emphasize that), and another from fellow-Bonzai artist and veteran electronic musician, Fab Code.

Sounds Like:

As expected from the original: heavy kicks bulldozing their way throughout the track and deep grinding bass that gives way to the intoxicating vocal loop. Prepare yourselves to keep grooving throughout the entire 6:59 minutes of "Hold You"!

First remix in line is from one of Italy's finest, Stefano Noferini. The irresistible groovy stab-bass interplay make this track gold. Aside from that, its massive breakdown definitely is a bonus!

Fab Code starts his remix with a neat arrangement of punchy percussion and solid kicks, which then progresses into a deep, head-nodding tune. Fab Code's remix, although a bit laying low when it comes to energy, still is a track for the dance-floor: high dance-value, good groove.

Recommendation:

"Hold You", in all its forms, is a release we wouldn't think twice in playing in a main room event. If you are a techno and tech house DJ, these tracks should be a staple in your sets!

Miqro feat. Ronar- You Will See

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

About:

Miqro-- one of Poland's hottest electronic music acts-- appears on Germany-based Solardish Records for a huge vocal release featuring Ronar, "You Will See"! Through his contemporary feel-good approach on deep and funky house music, Miqro has effortlessly garnered the respect from his home-country and has been successful in organizing Music Venue, the biggest afterparty of the Sunrise Music Festival.

"You Will See" garners a massive almost all-Polish line-up of remixers from Milkwish, Banana Groovz, Pete Grace, Roberto Bedross, Loui & Scibi, Novo, Viktor Drzewiecki, and of course, the heading tandem of Solardish Records-- Zweiklang Twins!

Sounds Like:

As mentioned, Miqro is known for his modern approach to deep and funky house music, and "You Will See" clearly demonstrates this with its flawless interplay of jazzy bass, funky guitars licks, deep-flowing Rhodes, and sharp echoing stabs.

Jackie aka. Banana Groovz lands two superb cuts for this release and both are good ol' funky house! Housey pianos, ultra-groovy bass, and filtered chords-- this Banana Groovz remix is one floor-filler. Something to its essence, the Novo Classic Mix also showcases a high dance-value disco reinterpretation of the tune, while the Roberto Bedross comes up with a funky-tech remix that also caters a dreamy breakdown.

If you're feeling something louder and sharper-sounding, the Zweiklang and Milkwish remixes are definitely for you!

Recommendation:

With 11 tracks on board, simply choosing one favorite track is a close-to-a-Herculean task, so to help you out in choosing tracks, here are our favorites: The original is given, no questions asked on that; for the remixes, we are leaning towards the remixes of Banana Groovz, Pete Grace, Zweiklang, and from Loui & Scibi! (But yes, our musical inclination may differ that is why you still really have to check out all the remixes in this package!)

"You Will See" by Miqro featuring Ronar will most likely end up in the prestigious dance-floors around the world but as far as we are concerned, this is going to our list of favorite releases of 2012!

Stan Kolev & Juan Mejia- To the Clouds (Part 2)

Sunday, April 15, 2012

About:

The first installment of the massive collaboration from Stan Kolev and Juan Mejia, "To the Clouds"-- released under Ready Mix Records-- has seen light last week (click here to read the review); the original version, the Big Al remixes, and the Beat Factory remix were definitely worth the listen!

Earlier this week, the much awaited second installment has already hit the stores, which is why we are here once again to help you guys in picking out your favorite remix: Will it be the Silt remix, the Fer Ferrari remix, or the DeepSoundExpress Air remix? There's only one way to find out. . .

Sounds Like:

Opening this release is the Silt remix-- a track of deep groove, edgy reverberated stabs, and hazy mind-levitating atmosphere. This remix by Silt pretty much highlights the haunting aspect of the vocal samples utilized in the original mix: just brilliant!

Barcelona's deep, tech, and lounge music talent, Fer Ferrari also takes one with his own groovy-deep-tech reinterpretation of "To the Clouds". Aside from the dominating piercing synths and the rock-solid bass, Fer Ferrari's remix also features a harder and a more energetic take on the original mix.

Of course, the connoisseurs of anything rejuvenating, deep, and delicate-- Russia's hidden treasure, DeepSoundExpress surprises us with their very own remix dubbed as "DeepSoundExpress Air Remix"!

It was actually  back in 2010 when we first heard the stunning sounds of DSE through their Aquamarine Recordings album release, "Sun Cocktail". Since then, we have been faithfully following them.

Their remix on "To the Clouds" is superb: extremely groovy bass-stab interplay, crisp and cool atmospheric pads, punchy snares and percussion, and some sublime piano keys on the breakdown. Get ready, this remix will definitely take you to the clouds!

Recommendation:

Wow. "To the Clouds" definitely deserved this two-part release, in our opinion. We enjoyed the first installment which came out last week or so, but this second installment is something we really really cherished.

If we were to pick ONLY ONE track as our favorite (but don't get us wrong, we totally love all the tracks), it just has to be the DeepSoundExpress Air remix. For one, it really has the groove: when we first heard this on promo, we could not help but start moving to it-- a symptom of a high-dance value tune! Second,  the atmospheric vibes DSE had perfected complements that of the original, and having both in one track is simply magical.

So there we go! Stan Kolev and Juan Mejia with their latest release on Ready Mix Records-- "To the Clouds".

Stan Kolev & Juan Mejia- To the Clouds (Part 1)

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

About:

Stan Kolev-- a serial Beatport chart-topper, a world-renowned Miami-based progressive house DJ and producer, and a certified globetrotter-- needs no introduction anymore. If you guys can still remember, "Emotional Content" was the Stan's first artist album, released in 2007 under Ready Mix Records. This time Stan returns to shore with a brand new collaboration with Juan Mejia-- label manager of the legendary Dutchie Music (and Grouper)-- entitled "To the Clouds".

"To the Clouds" is, in fact, a two-part release from Ready Mix Records: this first installment features the original version, two remixes from label owner Adel Ghandour aka. Big Al, and Beat Factory (Big Al plus Levente Szabo). The second part, however, will be released next week-- really impressive line-up of remixes-- but we'll keep it a secret for now!

Sounds Like:

The original mix of "To the Clouds" features the perfected trademark sound of Stan Kolev-- haunting melodies, hypnotizing vocals and well-known "heart-quenching" synths. Not just that, this original version also caters a fascinating bassline that seemingly "lifts us from the ground and takes us higher into the clouds" and that dash of glimmering arps that gives us that brilliant stellar feel.

Going not too far from the ground, Big Al unleashes the first of two remixes, the "Big Al's Deep Dub". This one in particular brings together heavy piano stabs, a low groovy bass, and some warm rhodes to balance the atmosphere. "Big Al's Balearic Mix" on the other hand also caters the similar elements of the previously mentioned version but highlights a Balearic-inspired electric guitar solo that really gives "To the Clouds" a touch of soul.

The last remix in the package is from Beat Factory, a project of Big Al and Levente Szabo. Aside from its excessive use of punchy percussion and stabs (in a constructive manner), the Beat Factory Remix also showcases its heavy chunky bass that effortlessly adds extreme dance-value to the track! Tight and sweet-- this is the remix by Ghandour and Szabo will definitely make it out to the venues.

Recommendation:

On to the verdict... This release as a whole is definitely above average. From the production quality to the undying creativity and propagation of groove, "To the Clouds" part one may just top charts this season.

All tracks are definitely of good selection, but the Beat Factory remix is that one sick track that we would not even think twice in testing on the dance-floor.

Watch out for part 2 next week! That you will really enjoy, take our word for that!

Various Artists- Wulongzu Weapons Vol. 1

Monday, February 27, 2012

About:

Wulongzu has already seen light as early as 2002 as a DJ-booking and promotions company founded by Shandong-based Filipino DJ and producer, Aldwin Macapagal. The company have had notable successes in enlisting top DJs from the Philippines and China for several of Wulongzu's events, and by 2004, Wulongzu started to seek out artists from around the world. Six years later, Wulongzu Records was born to aid in the propagation of house music in Mainland China.

After belting out a couple of releases on the label, Wulongzu finally releases its first release-compilation dubbed, "Wulongzu Weapons Vol. 1". Artists who have previously appeared on the label-- Diego Marcelo, Marc Galindo, Karlos Kastillo, and Aldwin Macapagal himself-- are back to deliver their own respective masterpieces. On the other hand, Weapons Vol. 1 also highlights the debuts of Danny Garlick, Andrez Florez, and the highly-acclaimed Finnish artists, Lovetone (Anton Sonin)  and Turismo!

Sounds Like:

The sound of Wulongzu does not deviate far from that of Gabriel Rocha's and Mark Knight's-- two highly-acclaimed producers who have perfected the balance between tech and tribal. Weapons Vol. 1 actually features a rare-shade of that organic tribal-tech sound that will prove very handy on the modern-day battlefield called the dance-floor. Let the heavy, deep and echoing vocal chants be your war cry while let the timely interplay of stabs and bass be your cadence to war.

Recommend:

Even at first listen, we already knew we had to recommend all the tracks on Weapons Vol. 1. At first, we even tried to higher our standards so we could filter-out better the tracks, but our efforts had been futile-- the more you listen to the whole release, the more you will realize that each track on the roster really has its intrinsic dance value and will truly serve you well on the field.

Choose your weapon!

Gurhan- Between Us EP

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

About:

Deep House Proposal started out as a night club in Istanbul, then to focus on delivering music to its people, the brand expanded into the podcasting business. Then now, with more ambition than ever, DHP launches its first release as a record label. First up in their promising line-up of artists is Gurhan Kcyigit, aka. Gurhan, also a fellow artist in Instanbul with the two-track release, "Between Us EP".

Sounds Like:

It's our first time to actually hear the sounds of Gurhan, and we're pretty surprised with the quality of work he has come up with. To delve into the deep side of his sound, let's breeze through his two tracks in this release, "Between Us" and "What You Say".

First, "Between Us", caters dark atmosphere, heavily filtered and reverberated stabs, groovy slabs of vocals, and a hypnotizing deep bass. "What You Say" on the other hand portrays the more organic side of Gurhan's productions. Prepare yourselves for rock-solid kicks, heavy bass,   heavily-flanged synths all wrapped into one fantastic track!

Recommendation:

This first release from Deep House Proposal really amazed us. We'll stick around more with this label for more releases in the future! Oh and our recommendation: get both tracks!

Sami Saari- Trump It EP

Saturday, January 21, 2012

About:

We've known Sami Saari for quite a while now— definitely no stranger anymore. Since the early days of his career, Sami Saari has already been humbly honing his sound through experimenting with various styles of music. His duties as label manager of Finland-based label Wicked Recordings and as media-specialist for Swedish label Captured Music have also played vital roles in the development of his career.

His latest release on Neptuun City, “Trump It” marks the maturity of Sami’s sound— a sound that puts together all the different music styles Sami had been trying to perfect since day one— a secret concoction of intoxicating tech house grooves. Two brand new tracks: “Trump It” and “Soul Marvel” will definitely bring to your doorstep the sound of Sami Saari.

Sounds Like:

So we mentioned something about “a secret concoction of intoxicating tech house grooves” earlier, well, it’s what you would expect from the first track, “Trump It”. Being more descriptive, “Trump It” brings together heavy funky bass, filtered disco samples, and a massive build-up! A floor-filler, an onslaught, a bomb, call it whatever you like— this is “Trump It”!

Sami is also known for his dry and sharp sounds, and “Soul Marvel” is one of Sami’s tracks build on these adjectives. But compared to “Trump It”, “Soul Marvel” embodies more disco influences as heard in the breakdown.

Recommendation:

A fantastic release this is! We definitely recommend getting both tracks from this release.

David Herrero Remixed

Saturday, December 17, 2011

About:

Four brand new remixes of world-renowned Spanish DJ and producer, David Herrero have finally been released special thanks to ALMA Soul Music! Enjoy David Herrero's "Gimme Somebody" as it gets its remixed, not once, but thrice! We've got Siwell, Vozmediano, and Scan Mode on the remixes of the said track while co-label owner, Javier Varez pulls off a stunning remix on David Herrero & Sergio Parrado's "Delnorte".

Sounds Like:

First up is Siwell's "Gimme Somebody"-- expect a pumping tech house reinterpretation from Italian techno authority, Luigi "Siwell" Poggiani! Vozmediano's on the other hand is a vintage-sounding piece topped up with synth bass and a wonderful melodic pianos. The third and last remix for "Gimme Somebody" falls onto the hands of Alberto Sanchez, also a Spanish producer more known as Scan Mode, and the result is this heavy industrial-oriented deep and tech tune!

Something dark, groovy, and vocoder-lead, the Javier Varez remix of "Delnorte" is a rare concoction that showcases the darker side of Javier's sound.

Recommendation:

"David Herrero Remixed" greets us with a range of diversified mixture of electronic dance genres. This release also is something different, as mentioned earlier-- quite a drift from the usual ALMA Soul Music style, but they were still able to pull it off! For our favorite tracks, they are Siwell's remix on "Gimme Somebody" and Javier's remix of "Delnorte".

Da Funk- Need For Faith

Saturday, December 10, 2011

About:

Swiss producer and Acryl Music head honcho Da Funk, takes over for the label's golden release, "Need For Faith"! Acryl Music has been industry since 2004, but it is only now that the label releases its 50th release-- a clear sign that it's always quality over quantity for Da Funk and the guys behind the label. Together with the original, expect authentic deep house remixes from Si Brad (Simon Bradshaw), Pete Moss, Elmar Schubert, and Q-Burns Abstract Message.

Sounds Like:

"Need For Faith" caters the unifying sound of Acryl and the trademark fat analog bass driven sound of Da Funk. Aside from which, you can expect a smooth-flowing line-up of hazy, spherical, and echoing synths.

Si Brad's remix spells vintage all over-- edgy discoid bass, deep atmosphere, and hypnotizing synths. Pennsylvania's Pete Moss drops a lush yet stubby remix of "Need For Faith", while German producer, Elmar Schubert turns over a chic and irresistible reinterpretation. For the last remix, "Need For Faith" falls onto the hands of Q-Burns Abstract Message as it turns into one intricate piece-- head-nodding stabs, tunnel-echoing atmospheric pads, analog bass all perfectly patched up together!

Recommendation:

We would not be wasting our time in writing a proper review of a release not worth recommending, would we? But we also couldn't help announcing our favorite picks in the release either!

So here it goes: the original mix is fantastic-- it perfectly sums up what Acryl Music is all about. Much respect to Da Funk! For our favorite remix, it's got to be Elmar Schubert's: so seemingly simple (but we producers know it's not) yet its addicting groove is out of this world!

Silverfilter- The Jap

Sunday, November 6, 2011

Deeper Manila is proud to bring out another stunning tech house release by a veteran in the local industry! Cyril Sorongon, better known as Silverfilter, is one of Manila’s finest and well-seasoned electronic music artists, and simply having him on-board once again proves that the label’s vision to push further the scene is still strong.

The Jap” brings to the surface sounds from underground from Manila to Pordenon as remixes from MicFreak, X-Cite & Gift, Justin de Guzman, and the Italian deep-tech duo, Aerodynamic Xpress see light.

As massive as it may sound, the original mix of “The Jap” is a product of heavy bass, echoing synths, and pumped-up kicks. Filipino-export, MicFreak and the Italian tandem, Aerodynamic Xpress turn the tables with their respective smooth-flowing deep reinterpretations of “The Jap”.

In contrast to the former remixes, X-Cite & Gift assemble a rough-rolling craft as their remix. Last but definitely not the least is the spectacular rendition by Deeper Manila head-honcho, Justin de Guzman, dubbed as the “Finish Me” remix-- expect something different from this one!
